UKUUG was founded in 1976. Since then, it has done much work, and had it done by many people.

  • December. UK Universities UNIX Newsletter Vol 1, No 1 (Editor Peter Gray).
• 1977
  • March. Alistair Kilgour proposes the setting up of a UK UNIX Users Group, perhaps as a Decus SIG.
  • May. UNIX Colloquium held at University of Glasgow. The meeting finishes with the initial meeting of the UKUUG (Decus SIG) where Alistair Kilgour is elected Chairman with Peter Gray as Secretary and Newsletter Editor.
  • July. UKUUG Newsletter Vol 1, No 2 (Editor Peter Gray).
  • September. UKUUG Colloquium held at University of Salford at which it was decided to affiliate with Decus by becoming the UNIX SIG. How does this square with the May entry?

  • February. LISA/Winter Conference in Bournemouth on the theme of "High Availability and Reliability".
  • September. Charles Curran stands down from Council after 2 terms of Service. Mike Banahan and Ray Miller join.
  • November: UKUUG hosts a second "Apple Technical Briefing" including Jordan Hubbard of Apple, founder of the FreeBSD project.
