| No picture available | John Pinner has been working with Unix and then Linux for over twenty years. After a career in engineering with a major manufacturer, he had a stint in Finance with the brief of introducing the software systems needed to prepare the company for selling-off. The standard of software and advice then available was so poor that he was convinced there was a need for something better and started his own company, Clockwork Software Systems, in 1987. Clockwork specialises in bespoke software solutions for business applications which are all based on Linux. He has worked with several languages including Assembler, BASIC, FORTRAN, Pascal, one of the earliest 4GLs (Sculptor), C and Python. Nowadays his work is centred around Python and C and Clockwork Software Systems have produced a development system - Thyme - which uses these tools and is aimed at business applications development. Thyme is being made Open Source this year. Outside software, his interests include baroque music, valve audio and classic Armstrong Siddeley motor cars. 2003-05 |
