About Cambridge

Cambridge is a small city in eastern England. Cambridge lies on the River Cam, a tributary of the Ouse. It is the county town of Cambridgeshire. Nearby towns and cities include Ely, Huntingdon, Newmarket, Bedford and Peterborough.

Cambridge is situated about 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of London.

This historic City with its world-renowned University has more than 3,500,000 tourists each year.

Cambridge can boast ancient monuments, a wealth of museums and galleries, as well as its famous book-shops and markets.

Visitors can find many attractions, including:

• The River Cam
• King's College Chapel, with its world-famous choir.
• Round Church The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, otherwise known as the Round Church, (one of only four round churches in Britain)
• Trinity - Great Court and the Wren Library
• St John's - Bridge of Sighs and School of Pythagoras
• Queens' - Old Court and the Mathematical Bridge
• Fitzwilliam Museum
• Cambridge Folk Museum displays the everyday life of Cambridge people since 1700
• Botanic Gardens has 40 acres of landscaped gardens and glasshouses
• Punts (a flat bottomed boat which is poled along - the route goes along the River Cam behind the main line of colleges, known as the Backs (so-called from being the backs of the colleges)
• Christs Pieces Midsummer Common Cambridge (a formal park near the centre, by the bus station)
• Parker's Piece (an open sports ground, used by local people)
• Midsummer Common (so-called because at midsummer, there is a large fair there, called Midsummer Fair).
