2000 UK Linux Developers' Conference Linux for the Enterprise
7 - 9 July 2000, Hammersmith (West London) |
It is fashionable these days to talk about XML as a communication language between applications, but we should not lose sight of the old-fashioned use of markup for preparing documents that humans read. This talk will review the tools now available, and in particular assess the future of the TeX war-horse.
Sebastian Rahtz is Information Manager at Oxford University Computing Services. His current work largely revolves around XML and, in particular, applications of the Text Encoding Initiative guidelines to documentation, but he has also been heavily involved with TeX for the last 15 years, and produces the monumental TeX Live CD-ROM.
