NUMA technology opens a new class of optimizations necessary to take full advantage of the whole power of the machine (in particular of the full memory bandwith available). We'll analyse the optimizations available in linux today that are currently used on the wildfire alpha boxes (GS series).
Zerocopy O_DIRECT is the way to go for all self-caching applications doing massive I/O to storage devices through the filesystem. We'll see numbers, API and a graphical simulation of the brainer part of the O_DIRECT functionaliy that is the lazy and efficient cache coherency protocol to keep the cache consistent across buffered and direct I/O.
