Sander Striker (Netherlands)Subversion: A Version Control System Replacing CVSI'll be presenting Subversion as a replacement for CVS. I will highlight the differences between Subversion and CVS from both the user and the technical perspective, and talk about the implementation in general. Subversion is a collection of libraries that are used by the command line client. SWIG bindings are being developed so that automation is easy with your favourite language (like Python). I'll give a short explanation of how the versioning works under the hood; the bubble up method; show what method was chosen to implement Subversion's networking support; and answer the FAQ about why Apache was chosen. Further, I'll show which features of Apache Subversion leverages: authentication, secure connections, serving web pages straight out of a repository (even through mod_include) and compression. Finally, I'll give an indication of what will and won't be implemented in Subversion 1.0. At the time of the talk 1.0 will probably already be released, so I might be talking about what features are up for 2.0. |
