Linux 2003 Conference and Tutorials Thurs 31st July - Sun 3rd August 2003 Edinburgh, Scotland |
AccommodationPollock HallsPollock Halls is set against the beautiful backdrop of Arthur's Seat, a 350 million-year-old extinct volcano. It was the games village for the 1970 and 1986 Commonwealth Games.
There are no more rooms available - phone visitscotland instead. Towels are provided. Rooms have standard UK 3-pin sockets. Breakfast is provided in the adjacent John McIntyre Centre (known as the ref to the students!). The breakfast is particularly hearty which is just as well if one has attended some serious evening sessions in the numerous local pubs the night before. Parking is available at Pollock Halls and there are frequent bus services. The halls are about a £4 taxi ride from the main Edinburgh railway station (Waverley) or about 30 minutes walk. An airport bus to and from the airport goes to the railway station (£5). Take a virtual walk from Pollock Halls to George Watson's College. Alternative AccomodationBeing a festival city and popular tourist destination, Edinburgh is full of hotels and guest houses with prices starting in the region of £30 per night for a single room depending on the quality of accommodation. The conference takes place just before the start of the Edinburgh Festival and the city is likely to be very busy so early booking is advised. The accommodation section of the Edinburgh and Lothians Tourist Board web site is probably the best place to start if looking for hotels and guest houses. Or you can simply phone visitscotland on 0845 2255 121 (or +44 1506 832 121 from outside the UK) and they will help you to make a suitable booking. They have a web form here. You can also try Murray Accommodation, Late Rooms (for discounts on unfilled hotel rooms in Edinburgh 3 weeks beforehand) or a Youth Hostel such as Bruntsfield which is a short walk from George Watson's College and only £13.50 per night without breakfast. |
