Paul Nasrat - Red Hat Inc.RPM Python (and friends)The RPM Package Manager (RPM) is a powerful command line driven package management system capable of installing, uninstalling, verifying, querying, and updating computer software packages. There is also a related API, permitting advanced developers to bypass shelling out to a command line, and to manage such transactions from within a native coding language. Many projects such as yum, up2date and anaconda make use of the python API. The talk will introduce the python API in it's current state, including building up small utilities in python. In addition to the core API, external modules that help or make use of rpm-python will be discussed to demonstrate real world use. Future plans for rpm-python will be summarised. In additon brief introduction of and comparison with other language bindings for rpm will be made. Slides |
