Jono Bacon - LUGRadioRemixing the Open Source radio show with LUGRadioEver since LUGRadio (www.lugradio.org) burst into the Open Source world, it has developed a solid community of listeners. Featuring a more social and informal style than most radio shows, LUGRadio has also tested the boundaries of what is said in a radio broadcast. Its irreverent and loose style has been lapped up by listeners the world over while simultaneously causing a stir in more formal quarters. As the show has developed, established Open Source contributors such as Jeff Waugh, Alan Cox, Miguel de Icaza, Mark Shuttleworth, Aaron Seigo and others have been a part of the show. In this presentation, co-founder of LUGRadio, Jono Bacon, will share how LUGRadio came into being, the technical challenges faced and the social/political challenges it has faced. The presentation will explore how LUGRadio has shifted the culture of technical radio and how audio blogging and podcasting is changing the way we consume information. As LUGRadio has continued in its success, it has spawned a live day-long event called LUGRadio Live. Featuring a range of speakers on a variety of subjects (including Ian Bell, Colin Watson, Sarah Ewan, Simon Willison, Drew McLellan, Gervase Markham and more), LUGRadio Live will take the social and irreverent nature of the show and present an event in the same spirit. Jono will share how four unsuspecting Open Source radio presenters have taken to the challenge of of preparing and running a different kind of Linux event. |
