Exchange for Unix - myth or reality?

One of Microsoft's key cash cows has absolutely no competition and no alternative in the Free Software world, whatsoever. To clarify that stark statement - to make matters worse - even if the MS Exchange networking protocol was well-documented and well-understood, there isn't a Free Software server capable of being adapted for Outlook clients to talk to it!

To address this unbelievable oversight on the part of the Free Software community, research has begun into the MS Exchange networking protocols, with a view to producing both a client library and a server framework.

This work is bringing some very interesting people, companies and funding efforts crawling out of the woodwork...
