Luke Kenneth Casson LeightonSkyguard's Skyminder - the Free Software Community's GSM / GPS phone!Skyguard's Skyminder product contains an ARM 7, a GSM module and a GPS module. It runs the 2.4 kernel. It measures 10cm x 8cm x 1cm. It's the ONLY chance for the Free Software community to get their own Mobile Phone. The other alternatives at first sight are a Motorola E680 or a Linux-based phone from a company in Shanghai. But neither of these two companies have released their code back to the Free Software community, so they aren't really viable community alternatives. This talk will go over the joys, trials and tribulations of the development of the Skyminder hardware, also focussing on the fun and games of its drivers for the LCD, buttons, communications with the GSM and GPS modules respectively, and the lovely OSS Audio driver. |
