Taking Xara LX Open Source

Xara LX is an open source vector graphics application, which has recently been ported to Linux and made available under the GPL. The product of over twelve years' development, it is one of the fastest, slickest, and most versatile desktop graphics programs available.

This talk will provide: a demonstration of Xara LX; an overview of the current state of development of the application; insight into Xara's business decision to port its software to Linux and to take it open-source, and into and the steps involved in implementing that decision; and a description of the technical hurdles the team faced in porting, together with a technical overview of the application's software architecture.

The presentation should be of interest to potential users and developers of Xara LX, as well those considering making proprietary software open-source, or porting to Linux.
