How does OSS stack up?

OSS software is often seen as the gaffer tape to cover the cracks in an organisation's proprietary infrastructure.

However, if OSS is to become a viable alternative for the enterprise it must be integrated and promoted as an end-to-end stack that can fulfill every business function.

Sirius' talk will consist of a broad technology stack comparison of leading vendor brands MS, Sun and IBM with Open Source.

  • What's the reality of OSS usage in the market? e.g. development tool-chains and environments, rip and replace in specific areas that have become commoditised etc.
  • Why is the concept of the stack so important to the enterprise?
  • How can Open Source steal a march on proprietary brands?
  • Case studies
