Stuart Yeates - OSS Watch

What are all these distributions and how should I choose one?

There are a huge number of distributions available today, why is there such a variety? And how can a new user make a sensible choice between them?

This session looks at how we arrived at the point where there are literally hundreds of distributions and why these distributions, many of which seem to have very few users, continue to flourish. The session then looks at how a new user can think about making sensible decisions about which distribution might be good for them to use, whether it be for a desktop, a laptop or a server.

If you've ever wondered whether you should install all distributions on the glossy linux magazines, this is the session for you. If you've been using linux since slackware was the only distribution, head over to the more technical sessions.
