An Introduction to OpenNMS

Abstract

OpenNMS is the world's first enterprise grade network and systems management platform developed under the open source model. This talk will provide an introduction to the OpenNMS project including an overview of the platform's features, architecture and development methodology. Using examples of real-world deployments in some very large installations, we will explore how the open source model allows users the flexibility to adapt the platform to their business needs rather than bending the business to suit the product.

Speaker biography

Craig Gallen obtained his Doctorate from the University of Southampton in 2008 for his research into the opportunities for open source within the practice of Operational Support System (OSS) design. Previously he has had more than 15 years practical experience in OSS, having developed management systems for broadcasting with NTL (now Arqiva) and worked as a product manager for Nortel’s Preside portfolio of OSS solutions. He is currently leading an open source network management standardisation project in the Telemanagement Forum on behalf of the OpenNMS project.
