LVM, Sysfs and meAbstractSAN storage arrays allow you to quickly and easily add and remove storage to a server as well as more advanced tricks such as resizing existing storage and quickly and simply cloning volumes. However making use of this power on Linux is not always easy, scsi is not a protocol designed with hotplugging in mind and if the server is live and so downtime needs to be scheduled and aproved, rebooting is not an option. This talk will cover some of my recent experiences of trying to manage servers and storage in a 24 7 environment, and explore some of the things that sysfs offers the sysadmin. Speaker biographyChris has been using Linux for a decade as a user, systems administrator and consultant and with characteristic timing started working for a medium-sized financial institution mere days before the credit crunch. Despite this he is still employed as a systems and storage administrator working with Linux and HP-UX systems. SlidesThe slies from this presentation are available in the following formats: |
