ID card plans pick up more critics
Important people have been ganging up on the ID cards bill in the last couple of days, with the Information Comissioner releasing a statement calling it “excessive and disproportionate” as well as “unwarranted and intrusive” - The Register, it seems, broadly agrees with the sentiments expressed. The house of Lords - currently being romanticised by some as a bastion of civil liberties - has also objected - on the grounds that the project will “fundamentally alter the relationship between the citizen [I thought we were still subjects] and the state” and is too open to abuse by governments or civil servants - and suggested some changes.
