Linux easy and cheap, getting easier and cheaper: report

An OSDL-funded independent survey - cheekily entitled “Get the Truth” - looking at the use of OSS by IT organisations has concluded that Linux is both cheaper and easier to deploy and maintain than Microsoft software. EMA, who conducted the survey, contacted thousands of organisations using OSS and mixed solutions to interview their CIOs and concluded that many of the problems formerly associated with Linux no longer exist and that many organisations find that they spend less time maintaining Linux compared to Windows.

Stuart Cohen from the OSDL answered questions on the report - the thrust of many of the questions was “is this just counter-FUD?”- at Slashdot the other day, and the blog at Infoworld has more conclusions to look at, including some anecdotal evidence in the comments section agreeing with the survey.
