Gov.uk publishes DRM report

MPs have told the government that it should not legislate to make digital rights management systems mandatory.

The recommendation from the All Party Parliamentary Internet Group follows its inquiry into digital rights management (DRM), which considered evidence from publishers, the film and music industries, lawyers and others.

The Open Rights Group have published a detailed response to some of the points raised in the report.

The FSF’s well-publicised but controversial stand on DRM came under scrutiny from the InfoWorld commentariat this week, with a suggestion that the FSF had overreached itself and gone beyond its core principles, promoting a lively debate elsewhere on the site.
