UKUUG Biographical details

Jonathan Riddell

I have been a user of Free Software for the past 4 years and a developer through the KDE project for the past two. I developed the kio-mac ioslave for reading MacOS partitions from KDE and Umbrello UML Modeller.

I have a strong belief against software patents and have been in contact with MEPs and European Commissioner Fritz Bolkenstein over this important issue. My professional work has included computer support for the Department of Artificial Intelligence, Edinburgh University and at George Watson's College in Edinburgh. Currently I am in my final year at the University of Stirling where my project is on bazaar development of Umbrello UML Modeller.

I run mail and web servers for Britain Yearly Meeting (Quakers) and for Edinburgh Area Scouts. I have recently taken over the organiser role for Falkirk GNU/Linux Users Group which holds monthly meetings to discuss Unix and Free Software in central Scotland. I am a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and last year organised the Spring Gathering of European and Middle East Young Friends, bringing young Quakers together from across the continent. As a keen canonist I enjoy nothing more than a good afternoon's surfing in the North Sea.
