Fabian Franz - University of KarlsruheFreeNX - Taking X Connections to the Next LevelThe NX technology - though being superior to all other known X compression techniques - is not known widely. One possible reason is that people were unaware that NoMachine put all major components under the GPL, allowing free software developers to develop their own free servers and their own free clients. And we did. NX allows you to make X11 connections over very slow links like GSM or modems. And they are still fast and responsive. NX achieves this goal using e.g. a very efficient X-protocol compression and caching, roundtrip suppression and compression of bitmaps. NX also allows one to suspend a normal X11-Session and later reconnect to it. The talk will show several live connections with the free and commercial clients to commercial and free servers in Germany, Italy and Canada. Later the free NX server will be started live from a Knoppix pre-release CD. This will also feature a whole terminal server concept. |
