Social Evening

We are getting together for a Social Evening at 7:30pm on Monday 31st March at the Walkabout Australian Bar at 266a Broad Street, a short stroll from the conference venue.

What is the UKUUG ?

UKUUG is the UK's open systems organisation, promoting the use of open systems, standards and software everywhere, UKUUG holds two annual conferences as well as seminars and tutorials throughout the year.

What is Spring 2008 ?

UKUUG's Spring conference is aimed at people with responsibility for large systems; 2007's conference targetted virtual systems and this interest is being maintained for 2008.

Also for 2008 we have an additional theme

  • Dynamic Languages: more than Scripting Tools

with a strong input, including talks and tutorials, from the Perl and Python communities.

When and Where will it be Held ?

Spring 2008 will be held from 31st March to 2nd April 2008 at the Birmingham Conservatoire.

What will be Included in the Programme ?

We're planning talks, lightning talks and tutorials as well as social events, and there will be BoF ('Birds of Feather') sessions for Exim and a full one day conference for PostgreSQL. Delegates are encouraged to arrange their own BoFs as well.

Thanks to generous sponsorship from Google there will a splendid Conference Dinner at the Novotel, just a few minutes walk from the conference venue. This is free-of-charge to delegates if you book in time.

UKUUG and the UKUUG PostgreSQL SIG are proud to join forces with the UK PostgreSQL User Group to present the UK's first PostgreSQL User Group Conference. This is being run as a one day event on 2nd April 2008 in parallel with Spring 2008. You can see details here.

What's the other UKUUG Conference ?

The second annual UKUUG conference is held each Summer, and is aimed at GNU/Linux developers.

What's this Conservatoire then ?

The School of Music at Birmingham City University. It has excellent facilities for our conference, and is in short walking distance of train and coach stations and hotels at all price levels.

How much will it Cost Me ?

We are keeping costs to a minimum and there are discounts for UKUUG members and early bird booking as well as concessionary rates for UKUUG concession members (eg students).
